Editing Services

I am offering editing services, however I want to be more than another editor on the internet. Ideally, I would like to build professional relationships with authors while helping each one grow in their craft. A good editor helps the author improve; a good author grows with each project.

As an author myself, I understand each project feels like an extension of yourself. Critique of your work feels like a critique of your soul – but it’s not. One of the first lessons an author needs to learn is how to separate themselves from their work. A bad review of your book is not a review of you as a person. A rejection from an agent is not a rejection of you as a person. You are putting forth a product – the only thing you can do is prefect the product to the best of your ability.

I would be honored to be a part of your writing journey. However, due to my limited time (I work a full-time job), I’m unable to take on every single author as a client.

My skillset includes Fantasy (high, romantic, romantasy, general, dark); mild sci-fi as long as it’s not science heavy; occasional horror (like folklore horror); and contemporary fantasy. I will accept YA, NA, and A.

I do not read MG or Children’s, and I’m not a fan of Urban Fantasy. I’m not the best fit for graphic novels. I’m not not suited for anything with a tremendous amount of spice in it, so no erotica.

Services

Since I’m just starting out as a freelance editor, I’m offering my services at $0.0025 per word for developmental edits, and $ 0.005 for line edits.

Developmental Edits: I will read your manuscript and look at character, plot, and worldbuilding/setting. I will deliver a report separated into the three above categories. I’m looking at it overall, the big picture. This type of editing is best for authors who have finished their draft to the best of their abilities and need a second pair of eyes.

Line Edits: I will go through your manuscript line by line and look at word usage, tense, sentence structure, and tone to make sure every word, sentence, and paragraph is pulling its weight. I will look at ways to trim down unnecessary words, weak verbs, lines that aren’t adding to the story as a whole, clarity, coherence, and cohesion. This type of editing is done after developmental editing, beta readings, and any other type of editing. This is typically the final step before proofreading. For advanced manuscripts.

I will do my best to get back with you as soon as possible. I work full-time and struggle with depression. If you don’t hear from me within a week, feel free to send a follow up message. I will respond to each inquiry, whether to accept a client or politely decline if a project doesn’t feel like a good fit for me.

Credentials

I hold a BA in English (with an emphasis in Writing, with a minor in Small Press Publishing), and a MFA in Creative Writing. I am the author of twelve published books, self-published and small press, with more slated for publication. I have been writing seriously (with the intent to publish) since 2016. I’ve loved stories for as long as I can remember, fawning over clever plot devices and complex characters and villains you love hate. I am also a member of Authors 4 Authors Publishing, where authors work together to publish.

My published books include the Stars and Bones series (Thief in the Castle, Mage in the Undercity, Dreams in the Snow, Nightmares in the Ice, Witch in the Wylds), the Hard as Stone trilogy, and the Devil’s Blood series.

My upcoming books include the final book in the Stars and Bones series (Archmage in the Ruins), Kingdom of Thorns (book 1), Reaper in Zeniba (currently published through Kindle Vella), Bloodied Crown, and Empire of Shadows (book 1).

If I have edited your book, and you’ve published, LET ME KNOW! I would love to add you to my list.
