The Little Things

Sometimes, all I need to get to work (writing) is a fresh cup of hot coffee. Other times, I need a nice glass of sweet red wine. Sometimes I just need to change into sweats, or not wear pants at all. On a nice day, I’ll open the window and let the fresh air inside. When it storms, I keep the curtains open so I can watch.

It’s the little things that motivate me to write or edit, like coffee or a lightning storm. Maybe it’s the chance of waking up in a good mood. Maybe it’s waiting for laundry to finish and typing a few words by the machine. Maybe it’s a warm sweater. Maybe it’s the feeling of being fresh from the shower. Maybe it’s the lingering ease of lovemaking.

What helps you get into the mood to write?
