Often Confused Words #1

Wary/Weary

Wary – cautious, suspicious

Weary – tired, exhausted

I’m guilty of interchanging these two words. I know others do, too. I’ve gotten better at spotting them, and double-checking with Word’s niffy thesaurus.

I’ve gotten better at spotting the words I often misuse and confuse, such as the two mentioned in this post. I know which words my fingers often type my mistake, and in revision I can single those words out like a hawk – I’ve learned my own common mistakes.

As you grow as a writer and shape your own voice and style, you’ll start to see these things, too. You’ll start to see the common threads in your stories. You’ll notice the mistakes that you make the most. You’ll start to know yourself better.

It’s all part of the wonderful world of a writer.
