Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself
.

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.

But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

OMG.

I started reading this book this morning, and I didn’t put it down. I didn’t get the chance to use my dragon bookmark. Granted, it was a Sunday and I didn’t have to be anywhere or do anything. I couldn’t stop reading. The writing was engaging, Alessandra is a sparkling gem of a main character, and the story pulled me along without forgiveness. This is a must read for YA fantasy romance fans.

This book had everything so many things that I LOVE-LOVE. A pretend romance that sparks into something else, a dangerous king with secrets, a murder mystery, and sharp, sparkling writing that brings it all to life. I never felt bored with this story and I never desired to put it down and go do something else.

I have never finished an entire book in a single sitting before. I’ve managed it in a couple sittings, but never one continuous sitting.

Because of the aforementioned reasons, The Shadows Between Us gets a 5 sparkling ruby roses out of 5.

And if you would excuse me, I have to go buy the rest of Tricia’s books.
