I don’t have a strong opinion of this book. I mean, I enjoyed it. I finished it. I didn’t rush to get book 2.
The characters are enjoyable and have depth. The world building is great. The writing is immersive and filled with slang that makes the character and the world come alive – once you get used to it. It took me a chapter or two to get my head around all the slang.
The romance was a bit…quick for my tastes. They were doing the whole “enemies to lovers” bit, and then became lovers real fast.
Despite it all, The Merciful Crow was a splendid fantasy adventure. It had monsters, twists and turns, and a bit of a spooky undertone. I’ll probably be picking up book 2 when my TBR gets a little lower.
