I started this year with goals both for myself as a reader and as a writer.
As a reader, I wanted to read more books. I set my Goodreads goal at 45. I hit my 2021 goal of 40, so I added a few. Will I make it? I have a good chance.
I also have a good chance to fail, but let’s not talk about that so early in the year.
I started the year with a book I found via Booktok, Vines and Vices by Kate Spark, a Jack and the Beanstalk retelling. I don’t think I would’ve picked such a book for myself had I not seen it on Booktok. It was delightful, full of fairytale feels. I hope to find more small press and indie book via Booktok.
As a writer, I have book three in the Hard as Stone trilogy coming out later this year, and I have book 1 in a separate trilogy (YA High Fantasy) going off to a new editor in February. I did a quick edit of book 1, and then book 3, and as of the writing of this, I will start drafting book 3 tomorrow. I have a few vacation days to use, so I’m going to write.
Also, the covers have been updated for Hard as Stone and Thick as Blood!

Strong as Steel, book 3, will be coming out this autumn!
My favorite book that I’ve read so far is The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen. I found this book on Booktok, promised to be enemies-to-loves, slow-burn fantasy romance full of betrayal and secrets. It delivered. The world is so rich and the characters realistic, and I loved it. I bought book 2 before I’d finished, and it’s on its way.
I have also started collecting physical books. My dream is to have my own library, like fantasy castle library. With a library ladder and cushy seating and a fireplace. (It’ll be a space heater, but I can dream.)
